Victoria Roth
Biography
Victoria Roth (b. 1986 in Paris, France) is a visual artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. She grew up in France and received her MFA from Columbia University in 2014 and a BA in History of Art & Architecture and Visual Art from Brown University in 2008. In addition to her studio practice, Victoria Roth is an arts educator in New York City.
Her biomorphic abstract paintings sit on the edge of recognition — a meaty shape expands like a muscle, a gnarled form morphs into a heart, that bulbous symbol. Through her imagined and high keyed compositions, she explores ideas of queer abstraction and desire as embedded in bodily forms that appear to constantly transform. While her paintings are loud and visceral, they resonate on a psychological level, revealing themselves over time.
Roth has exhibited her paintings and drawings nationally and internationally. She has had recent solo exhibitions and solo fair presentations such as Solo booth with Broadway Gallery at the Armory Show in New York (2023); Velvet Nerve at Broadway Gallery in New York (2022); Victoria Roth at Brennan & Griffin in New York (2019);Off the Banks at Brennan & Griffin Gallery in New York (2017); Insides at fAN Kunstverein in Vienna (2017).
Her work has been included in numerous group shows at various galleries and institutions such as Of Flesh and Air at Galeria Marta Cervera in Madrid (2024); Summer Exhibition at Shin Gallery in New York (2024); Deep! Down! Inside! at Hales Gallery in New York (2023); Pizza at Kate Werble gallery in New York (2023) ;Jahresgaben at Bonner Kunstverein in Bonn (2022); Intertwined at 1960 Gallery in New York (2021); City Prince/sses at Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2019);The Pit Presents / Step Sister at The Pit in Los Angeles (2018); Furies at Helena Anrather in New York (2018); The Clear and The Obscure at Lulu in Mexico City (2016) and more.
