Bäckerei - Exhibitions

Sutton Lane has started a series of exhibitions in Brussels. The second exhibit is Bäckerei by German artist Christoph Ruckhäberle.

The exhibition comprises a series of new paintings and large-scale, oil pastel drawings. The works on paper are the continuation of a series exhibited at Sutton Lane, Paris in January 2009, and at the Migros Museum in Zurich in May this year.

The individual figure has taken center stage in Ruckhäberle’s work, and his interest in conveying a dense, multi-faceted representation of the persona has become more evident.

The ‘tame’ representation of mask-like faces (seen in Paris and Zurich) makes way to a more experimental approach that demonstrates the artist’s pleasure in engaging with his subject in a more immediate way. The use of the oil pastel gives him more freedom to play with form, colour and arrangement.

The title Bäckerei refers to the studio of the artist, site of experimentation and investigation.
