Katherine Bradford - Viewing Room

With this latest series of works Katherine Bradford continues her research on formal painting, spanning from figuration to the tradition of Color Field painting. Her ambiguous pictorial spaces are inhabited by enigmatic and androgynous characters as if emanating from fragmented memories or imperfectly recalled dreams. Without the traditional markers of gender, her groups of people exist in collective fluidity, undermining the conventional understanding of identity, revealing the artist's interest in exploring the different ways in which individuals stand next to each other and create community. Bradford's works resonate within our current moment of isolation and introspection, evoking notions of vulnerability, protection and desire about our bodies in relation to each other.
